We developed Night Nickel as an environment-friendly black plating.
It is a black plating which does not use hexavalent chromium but which addresses blackness nearly equivalent to that of black chromate.
It is an environment-friendly thick black plating which does not contain hexavalent chromium in plating film unlike galvanized black chromate, and which does not use hexavalent chromium even during the processes unlike black chromium plating.
In a similar fashion to electroless nickel plating, control on the plating film thickness is possible. A uniform plating is formed regardless of the shape. In addition, hardness is about HV450 without thermal treatment, and can be improved further by thermal treatment. There is also no discoloration by heat.
Night Nickel is an environment-friendly thick black electroless nickel plating. In the recent years, reduction and abolishment of use of hazardous substances are being clamored globally due to environmental problems.
Especially RoHs directive, which was enacted in Europe, regulates hazardous substances used in electric products (hexavalent chromium, lead, mercury and so forth).
So far, black plating types such as black chromate and black chromium used or contained hexavalent chromium, and an alternative surface treatment to these had been demanded.
We therefore developed Night Nickel as an environment-friendly black plating. Night Nickel is a black plating which uses electroless nickel plating and no hexavalent chromium.
It shows no discoloration even after thermal treatment at 200℃ for 24 hours.
No thermal treatment … Hv approximately 450
Thermal treatment (200℃, 24 hours) … Hv approximately 700
These are results of a test using a microhardness tester and 10g load.
Neutral salt spray test (JIS Z2371) … No rust generation after 6 hours
Nearly equivalent to the normal electroless nickel plating.
It is glossier than other black-colored treatments as it is a first plating with luster.
